Snoop Dogg

Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus is a rare exception in the turbulent world of Hip-Hop. In a genre where big names come and go just as fast as hit records, Snoop Dogg has managed to stay tremendously relevant throughout his 16-plus years in the game. From music to movies, video games to clothing lines and now his own hit TV show (E!’s reality series Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood), Snoop Dogg is an all-out pop culture icon and household name.

concert may be concelled, due to the board of supervisors, thinking that he will bring gang problems, lets hope that does not happen,

Any one else pissed about Monterey county making an issue over Snoop Dogg coming? His presence is NOT going to suddenly cause massive gang riots in any way.
    Its Monterey for god sakes.
Plus, any gang violence in the area is in Salinas between the surenos and the nortenos.
    Not crips and bloods.

It’s getting a little bit ridiculous.

I highly doubt it’s going to be cancelled on account of this, I just live in the area and make a point to keep myself informed of the happenings surrounding the summit. It’s being made quite the obnoxious issue.

Has anyone heard anything directly for the heads of the summit about it?

  9. Christine on May 5th, 2008 2:25 pm

    Hey Snoop Fans,

Guess you have heard there has been some controversy over adding Snoop Dogg to our bill. We are troubled here as well about the County being able to have ANY say in what the public consumes, but we have agreed to comply with all security requirements that they have requested of us. Therefore, we anticipate the show will go on. The Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday, May 6. We will have further word after Tuesday.

Meanwhile, vote with your pocketbooks! Tell everyone you know to support Snoop Dogg.

    Best,

I don’t beleive that Snoop Dog should be banned from performing, (Per Salinas Californian) maybe clean up the colors on wardrobe but he has shown a change in past life and can be a positive influence on our community .

So the Monterey County Board of Supervisors voted to allow Snoop to perform. There was one decenting voice - Ila Mettee-McCutchon. I believe she is running for re-election. I will not be supporting her re-election bid because anyone who supports censorship (guised as concern of gang activity) is not worthy of my vote!

  14. David Jr. on May 7th, 2008 1:27 pm

You know the Board of Supervisors know nothing about hip hop if they still think it brings gang bangers to shows. Been going to hip hop shows in the Bay for over 10+ years now and the audience are primarily non-gang suburbanites who listen to hip hop.

  15. Christine on May 7th, 2008 1:33 pm

    Hey Snoop Fans:

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 1 to support our event according to yesterday’s vote. Apparently, they agree that censorship is dangerous and illegal. The show will go on as originally planned. Now get your tickets already!

It’s about time Monterey got a little chocolate in the mix with the vanilla and dulce de leche. Don’t be scared, y’all, it’s just a new flavor! And it’s RICH, too!

    Yummm.

Got something to say?
